Search Engine Results Page (SERP)

SERP stands for search engine results page: the page shown after a search. It can contain organic results, advertisements, maps, images, videos, featured answers, and AI-generated features, so a ranking number alone does not describe what someone sees.

SERP stands for search engine results page: the page shown after a search. It can contain organic results, advertisements, maps, images, videos, featured answers, and AI-generated features, so a ranking number alone does not describe what someone sees.

A search results page is not a fixed list

The composition of a search results page can change with the query, device, location, language, account state, and search engine. The same organisation may appear through its homepage, a service page, a social profile, a directory, a news article, an image, or an AI-generated response.

This is why “we rank third” is incomplete. A result in that position may appear beneath advertisements, maps, video results, a featured answer, or an AI feature. Another result may receive stronger visibility because its title, description, source, and surrounding context are clearer.

What La Rouge reviews

A useful SERP review records:

  • which result types are present;

  • which pages and sources appear;

  • how the organisation is named and described;

  • whether important pages are missing;

  • what competitors or publishers are answering;

  • whether the result satisfies the likely search intent; and

  • how the page changes across agreed devices, locations, and dates.

The purpose is not to chase every visual feature. It is to understand the environment in which a person encounters and evaluates the organisation.
